Franz Joseph Gall was born near Vienna, Austria in 1758. While still in his early twenties, he published his first book in 1788, an account of the experiments he had made with the use of electricity on animals. He then went into private practice as a doctor for over thirty years, during which time he wrote several books on medicine and psychology.
